During the film, the characters would burst into a song in the spur of a moment, sometimes in a “fantasy,” setting, and inclusive of many theatrical elements, including eye-catching costumes, lighting, special scenery, singing, and of course, dancing.

At the very beginning, Bollywood dancing was based on Kathak and Bharatanatyam which are classical Indian dances. Modernday Bollywood dance moves, however, include a dose of hip-hop dancing, Bhangra, or sometimes a fusion of western dances. Dressed in colorful and flashy costumes, the dancers bring to life a performance that can tell several stories.
